The wife has just opened a pandoras box (you tube)!
by evergreen ini was browsing the net yesterday and was looking up some you tube clips on jehovahs witnesses.
the wife then asks if she could use the net to check out something.
little did i realise she was checking my history trail (we're a trusting couple!

What's Your MAIN Reason For Not Believing In "The Truth"?
by minimus inmy mother had this discussion yesterday.
basically, my main argument was that if the fds gets jehovah's holy spirit and their "food" is "the truth", yet they always are correcting themselves, how can anyone in all fairness believe it's "the truth"??
you can't show scripturally why organ transplants are a form of cannibalism and clearly a disfellowshipping offense and a couple of years later after possible disfellowshippings or death, and then believe jehovah god changed his view suddenly.

Just got tired of hearing all the labels one day - this one is a pioneer, that one is a circuit overseer, this one is 'just' a publisher, and I thought, OMG, these are all just PEOPLE, the same as people are everywhere, who needs all these labels all the time? Regularly to hear Elder this and Elder that, and all the same there is supposedly no clergy/laity distinction among God's chosen people, we are all 'brothers'? What blatant doublespeak...EARS truly OPEN UP and all of a sudden, the EMPEROR really HAS NO CLOTHES!

An interesting discussion with my wife
by 10p inlast night i had an interesting talk with my wife in bed.. oprah had a show on recently about gays.
now i don't normally watch oprah, but she was watching a taped one in the evening, so i was just overhearing stuff.
anyway, i think my wife puts more faith in oprah than in the gb :).

So good to hear of your positive results!
I think a ton of JWs must be secretly 'awakening' to the realization that a lot of the prejudices (for that is what they are) that they harbored as JWs and perhaps still harbor are as a result of misinformation. Of course, the Society is woefully inadequate in presenting all sides of any issue, so the WTBTS would of course be remiss when it comes to presenting scientific evidence of any 'gay' gene.
In fact, this was the tack I took when 'reverse witnessing' recently - our eyes are only truly open when we see both sides of any issue, both the good and the bad. The Society is notorious in presenting itself in a whitewashed kind of way - then threw in the scripture about outwardly being like whitewashed graves, but inwardly full of dead men's bones(!) for GOOD MEASURE. I said I preferred to be privy to ALL information, without their censoring . This was initially hard to swallow, but my 'householder' actually saw my reasoning.... just keep dropping the baby hints and the seed will surely sprout!
Thanks for sharing.

Our CO gave a talk to kids. Stay OUT of school!
by easyreader1970 inhe wanted to talk to the young ones in the congregation.
the main theme of the talk had to do with avoiding higher education.
basically the main idea was this: witnesses are losing alot of young people here in the last few years.

It was just this type of 'lame' CO talk that helped propel our family out of this braindead CULT! The more talks of this calibre that are given, the more lightbulbs will go off, hopefully, in any thinking attendee, young or old...
freydi: Don't go giving them any ideas! (Hilariously funny, by the way!)

easyreader:
I think she's ripe for enlightening. She's suffering from conflicting info! Perfect storm conditions - mixed messages...which is what was instrumental in waking me up! Tell her you are puzzled by the change - it contradicts the admonition in Hebrews 10:24,25 which is to meet 'all the MORE so" so why is the GB doing the exact opposite? again you have to ask these questions with the greatest of sincerity, shake head, throw up hands in despair, etc. etc. Then point out that it is a shame that the GB had to see so many so burdened before they made the change, perhaps ask why it would take gas prices to move the Holy Spirit to make these changes, but then wait 8 months to actually implement them for the good of Joe Witless? (ok, don't say Joe Witless!)
Sounds like the meeting is the highlight of your wife's day (or maybe it's the one time the kids don't need her attention as much - not sure of their ages). If she doesn't work outside the home, this may be her only escape from the drudgery of being housebound (not sure of your circumstances)
Bottom line, you are the head of the household and as such you have the right to make decisions about your own meeting attendance. ASSERT YOURSELF! She could be feeling so insecure, forcing you is the only way she can convince herself to go as well....
Just my 2 cents. Hope I don't sound too overbearing...not wanting to tell you what to do, just sending some thoughts your way. It must be difficult....

Yeah - 1919 HAS to go first.
by hamsterbait inon this board some have said that 1914 cannot be ditched, otherwise the 1919 faithful and discreet slave and its appointment will not hold water.. my recent - yes - fake article showed, using the tried and tested methods, how this could be done.. the only way to ditch the 1914 teaching is to uncouple any doctrines which depend on that date.. separation of sheep and goats since 1914 gone.. the generation change has now gone.. the invisible return of christ in 1914 has gone.
( watered down to "turned his attention" to the earth.).
all that remains is the appointment of the "slave" 3 and a half years later in 1919. the order in which this is happening is following the sequence above, which i reckoned would happen, after i heard the talk in 1993 about the "celestial phenomena", and the new application of "when you see these things.".

Easyreader: not to hijack the thread, but how did your wife react to the announcement about the amalgamating of the book study, thus reducing meeting attendance times? That should have been a huge tip off to her that many of the brothers just can't keep up the regimen. Why not take that tack with her? Tell her you may not have been vocal about it, but you too felt the stress of having so many meetings and are so glad the Gibbering Buddy has taken note of your exhaustion and 'lessened the burden'. You have to say this in all sincerity, of course! Then stick to your guns on the odd meeting night, and say you will not be COERCED. You need to take care of your physical well being, as well as the spiritual and only you are in a position to judge when your body needs rest from the hectic 24/7 pace of today's world. Tell her meetings need to be weekday mornings, if they are that important, not at the end of the day, when normal people are TIRED OUT from a day of work. Jesus load is light! yada yada
Your wife does actually sound rabid about meeting attendance, by your description. I don't envy your position, but I think you could change it ever so slowly and tactfully....just my 2 cents...

Feign illness, headache, your back can't take another 2 hours spent sitting on a hard chair, whatever it takes to get out of it, or leave halfway through for starters. See how you enjoy the extra rest on a Thursday night instead of getting home somewhere around 10:00 p.m. (if you're as old as I am!) and as far from the KH as I was. Think of the gas you'll be saving if you stay home and how you will be doing your part to curb greenhouse gas emissions. See the positive side of missing meetings (and there really is a VERY POSITIVE side!) Seriously, the more you skip the meetings, the clearer your head will become...soon you'll be able to just say NO MORE!

What do you know you know?
by zensim ini have been inspired to ask this question by narkissos' thread: "is 'consciousness' overrated?
" (et al).. whilst my question is primarily directed to you nark, i want to open this up to everyone else also.. nark - from your opening ramblings (and i mean that in the most endearing way) on "is 'consciousness' overrated?
", and from other recent posts, i get the feeling that you are asking these questions because you know something and you are trying to grasp onto what you know.

I was going to respond to this, but then realized I'm not sure if I know what I thought I knew! In the end, thought better of it...hopefully you will get at least SOME responses

I so agree with you VoidEater about the lack of any feeling of worship at the meetings. It just seemed to be a rote 'school like' setting; even the songs did not impart any reverential feeling in me.
I've come to love the abundant decorations in churches of every stripe - to me the artwork and displays are representations as an expression of gratitude for the bounteous richness the Almighty has bestowed upon this planet, and so I value visiting any 'religious' buildings in my travels
I also want to begin to volunteer in some way in helping those less fortunate than myself and my family. I haven't found my niche yet, but believe my 'passion' will soon manifest itself, now that the shackles on the expression of my innermost being have been thrown off.
Worship is NOT about taking in knowledge, that's one thing I know for sure. Ok, now I have something to put in that other thread about knowing what I know....
